“Off the Beaten Track” Shiraz (2005)
The grapes for this stunning wine were grown at Mount Cole. Released in May 2007 after 15 months in American oak, it is a giant in every way.
Tasting notes
The wine is a stunning deep garnet colour with great intensity. The nose displays rich ripe berry aromas balanced by vanillan American oak. In time these components will integrate to give a complex and intriguing wine.
The palate reflects the promise of the nose with an initial flavour explosion. Fruit, oak and alcohol combine to give this wine a subtle warmth on the palate along with spice, blackberry, mulberry and fruit cake flavours.
This wine won a BLUE-GOLD AWARD at the Sydney International Wineshow in 2008 for going with food. It certainly is proving to be a favourite with cellar door visitors.
It particularly suits wine lovers who like the vanilla sweetness that American oak gives to a wine. The screw cap will ensure the quality of the wine is not compromised by cork taint.
Cellaring
This wine can be savoured when young or left 5 to 10 years in the bottle — but is great to drink now…

BLUE-GOLD MEDAL
A complex wine, made from ripe grapes. The grapes for this wine ripened extraordinarily quickly in the warm second last week in April 2005. This resulted in higher alcohol levels than normal, giving the wine a fullness and fruit sweetness. The resulting wine has been aged with American oak, giving a vanilla character complementing the plum fruits and spices from the grapes. These characteristics make the wine an ideal accompaniment for food, the wine NOT being overpowered by rich meats, sauces and even curries. To support this food-wine nexus for the 2005 shiraz, it was awarded a “Blue-Gold” award at the Sydney International Wine Show where wines are judged with food.
