Mount Cole Wineworks Vineyard

Owned by Graeme and Carolyn Bertuch, Mt Cole Wineworks was established in the late 1990's in a valley at Mount Cole, near the well known Langi Ghiran vineyard in country Victoria, Australia. This is in the Grampians Wine Region and the heart of Victoria Felix.

The vineyard specializes in shiraz, with soils and climate suiting this variety. Cool nights and warm days ripen the fruit late in the season. The soil is granitic loam over red clay, allowing true expression of the shiraz variety in the wine.

Grapes for the 2004 vintage were picked on May 7th, 2004.

Shiraz grapes for the 2005 vintage were picked on April 20, the 2006 vintage on 27th March and the frost stricken 2007 vintage on the 19th March. Is this a sign of global warming?

Terroir

Terroir is the unique local environment where soils and climate combine to let the grape express its unique attributes when crafted into wine

The terroir of the Mount Langi Ghiran / Mount Cole districts is ideally suited for shiraz, with warm summer days, cool nights and soils of granite loam over red clays which bear a strong resemblance to the granite based soils of the Rhône Valley, the traditional home of Shiraz.
